John Hennessy
John Hennessy is the author of three poetry collections: Exit Garden State (Lost Horse Press, 2024); Coney Island Pilgrims, (Ashland Poetry Press, 2013); and Bridge and Tunnel (Turning Point Books, 2007).
Alongside Ostap Kin, Hennessy co-translated the following books of poetry from the Ukrainian: Set Change by Yuri Andrukhovych (NYRB/Poets Series, 2024), which received honorable mention for the American Association of Ukrainian Studies (AAUS) Translation Prize; Babyn Yar: Ukrainian Poets Respond (Harvard Library of Ukrainian Literature, 2023), winner of the American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages Prize for Best Scholarly Translation and honorable mention for the AAUS Translation Prize; and A New Orthography by Serhiy Zhadan (Lost Horse Press, 2020), a finalist for the PEN Award for Poetry in Translation and a winner of the Derek Walcott Prize.
Hennessy teaches at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
