Antonella Anedda

Poet and essayist Antonella Anedda Angioy was born in Rome, Italy, to a Sardinian family in 1955. She was raised in the capital and graduated with a degree in modern literature from Sapienza Università di Roma (La Sapienza) and earned a PhD in philosophy from the University of Oxford.

Anedda is the author of six books of poetry, including Archipelago (Bloodaxe Books, 2014), a collection of work translated by Jamie McKendrick and selected from five of her books of poetry published over twenty years. She is also the author of numerous books of prose, including Geografie (Garzanti, 2021) and Isolatria: Viaggio Nell’arcipelago della Maddalena (Laterza, 2013), a book of essays about her family’s native island of La Maddalena, off the northern coast of Sardinia. She has also produced numerous translations into Italian, including works by Ovid and Anne Carson

Anedda’s awards include the 2000 International Eugenio Montale Prize, the Viareggio Rèpaci Prize, and the 2014 Pushkin Prize. She has also received an honorary doctorate from the Sorbonne (Paris IV). 

Anedda, who has also worked as a journalist, is a lecturer in modern Italian literature at Università della Svizzera italiana in Lugano, Switzerland. She has previously taught at La Sapienza and the University of Siena.
