Redaction is often used to hide. In this writing studio, we will use it to reveal.
Drawing on the work of Titus Kaphar, Reginald Dwayne Betts, Airea D. Matthews, and Billy-Ray Belcourt, Nicole Sealey, and Quenton Baker, participants will engage with and redact school and civic documents—wartime speeches, presidential posts, textbooks, district policies, and CIA bulletins—to make visible the power relations they maintain.
This is a writing studio for poets, history teachers, organizers, and anyone who wants to write, whether or not they consider themselves a writer.
Join poet Mark Nowak and educator Lisa Arrastia to transform the “official” record into a site of radical revelation.
