In 2026, Logan Phillips was named an Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellow. Logan Phillips’s ¡Somos Uno! (“we are one!”) is a new type of literary offering for Tucson and Southern Arizona: poetry events for those who don’t go to poetry events—and for those who already love them. Organized by Tucson Poet Laureate Logan Phillips, this new series of multilingual, intergenerational, cross-cultural, accessible, exciting encuentros (“community encounters”) and writing workshops brings together poets and storytellers from Tucson’s many dynamic literary communities at unexpected venues across the city. ¡Somos Uno! will provide a series of sparks for the local arts scene, opening space for youth poets to find community and continue the poetic path, with an emphasis on platforming Indigenous voices and offering an alternative to the loneliness, atomization, and fear created by the current technological and political climate, especially for Tucson Latinx communities. Featuring food and music while celebrating literacy, oral tradition, and our cultural heritage, ¡Somos Uno! centers poetry as an indispensable tool to collectively imagine the future we deserve.
