Jun Fujita
Jun Fujita, born Junnosuke Fujita on December 13, 1888, near Hiroshima, Japan, was a Japanese American photojournalist, photographer, actor, and poet. He is the author of the collection Tanka: Poems in Exile (Covici-McGee Co., 1923), and published his poems in periodicals such as Poetry magazine. Fujita was the first photojournalist to work for the Chicago Evening Post, and is considered to be the first professional Asian American photographer as well as one of the first poets to compose tankas in English. The Jun Fujita Cabin, a cabin formerly owned by Fujita located on an island in Voyageurs National Park, Minnesota, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. He died on July 12, 1963.
