Julia Kolchinsky
Julia Kolchinsky is a Ukrainian-born poet who came to the United States as a Jewish refugee when she was six years old. She is the author of several poetry collections, including Parallax (University of Arkansas Press, 2025) and 40 WEEKS (YesYes Books, 2023).
Her poem “For the Journalists Who Write About Ukraine” was originally published in Crab Orchard Review in 2015. In 2016, Kolchinsky won the University of Pennsylvania Poetry Prize for her poem “Out of Stone.” She also won the 2017 William Carlos Williams Prize for her poem “Letter to My Son, November 8th 2016.” In 2018, Kolchinsky also won the William Carlos Williams Prize for her poem “For War and Water.”
Kolchinsky is an assistant professor of English and creative writing at Denison University. She lives in Columbus, Ohio.
