Enheduana

Enheduana was an ancient princess and poet who lived in Mesopotamia during the Sargonic period (c. 2316–2163 BC). Because most Mesopotamian literature was written by anonymous authors, scholars are divided on the validity of Enheduana’s authorship. If Enheduana authored the Sumerian hymnal poems attributed to her, she would be the first documented author in history. Although contemporary evidence about her is scarce, there is proof of her existence in seals discovered with the inscription “Enheduana, daughter of Sargon.”
