I Write Because

the monogram of
signifying more than
I swallow without
it is mine
human the one
to pull the hose
toward ironwood
a life that is
every yesterday
every tomorrow
this small
luminous codex
of all the to-do lists
generating energy
organizing identity
it is simple
to turn towards sun
to write without
I listless easy
I write because
it's a pleasure

first light on wall
empty sign
deciding
to be human
with the hands
to the driplines
children before sunrise
the creation of more life
a foundation
a cathedral
index of light
filtering through leaves
unfurled
from worry
from fear
enough gesture
away from market value
deciding
but eventually I breathe
the physical act of writing
in my hands
