Founded in 1974, the Howard County Poetry and Literature Society is a community-based literary organization whose programs include a Writer-in-Residence program, readings by distinguished poets and authors, and an award-winning cable television series, The Writing Life, which is now accessible on YouTube. HoCoPoLitSo's season is from early autumn through June and is achnored by four annual events: in Octobers, they sponsor the Lucille Clifton Poetry Series Reading; the Annual Irish Evening is held each February; each April, they host the Blackbird Poetry Festival; and the Columbia Festival of the Arts event is held every June.
