The American Literary Translators Association is a non-profit independent arts-membership association whose mission is to support the work of literary translators, advance the art of literary translation, serve translators, and the students, teachers, publishers, and readers of literature in translation. Through its annual conference, awards, publications, collaborations with other professional organizations and lobbying efforts, ALTA, whose national offices are located at the Center for Translation Studies at the University of Texas at Dallas, was founded in 1978.
