A Reading with Jacqueline Osherow & Lynne Thompson

Join us for a reading with poet Jacqueline Osherow. She will be reading from her newest book Divine Ratios (LSU Press, 2023). A Distinguished Professor at The University of Utah, Osherow's ninth collection is full of speed and mobility, not only physical―a traveler’s movement in a crowded, thrilling world―but imaginative, and its poetic idiom is no less varied, as a breezy conversational tone serves as a counterpoint to traditional form. She will be accompanied by Los Angeles Poet Laureate Lynne Thompson. The reading will be hosted by David St. John.

Doors open: 7:30 PM. Readings: 8 PM.

Lynne Thompson is Los Angeles’ 2021-22 Poet Laureate and a 2022 Poet Laureate Fellow of the Academy of American Poets. Thompson is the author of three collections of poetry: Beg No Pardon, Start With A Small Guitar, and most recently Fretwork, winner of the 2019 Marsh Hawk Poetry Prize. The recipient of multiple awards and fellowships including several Pushcart Prize nominations, Thompson sits on the Boards of Cave Canem and the Los Angeles Review of Books and recently completed her term as Chair of the Board of Trustees at Scripps College. Her recent work can be found or is forthcoming in Best American Poetry, New England Review, Black Warrior Review, Massachusetts Review, The Common, and Copper Nickel, among others.

Jacqueline Osherow’s ninth collection of poems, Divine Ratios, was published by LSU Press in 2023. She’s received grants from the John SimonGuggenheim and Ingram Merrill Foundations, the NEA, and the Witter Bynner Prize. Her poems have appeared in The New Yorker, Paris Review, American Poetry Review, Best American Poetry, The Norton Anthology of Jewish-American Literature, The Penguin Book of the Sonnet and many other anthologies and journals. She’s Distinguished Professor of English at the University of Utah.
