#PoetsforPuerto Rico (Newark)

#PoetsforPuertoRico (Newark) is a fundraiser for communities and entities in Puerto Rico that are still struggling through the aftermath of Hurricane María's passing in September 2017.

The first #PoetsforPuertoRico was organized by Willie Perdomo in Manhattan, NY. Since then, under Willie's assistance, #PoetsforPuertoRico events have been held in different cities across the U.S.:

  • #PoetsforPuertoRico (The Bronx)

  • #PoetsforPuertoRico (Philadelphia)

  • #PoetsforPuertoRico (Berkeley)

  • #PoetsforPuertoRico (Louisiana)

  • #PoetsforPuertoRico (Chicago)

Commemorating the anniversary of hurricane María's passing, and more importantly, of using it as an opportunity to acknowledge how even after a year, the island continues to struggle with its recovery and the crises that were exacerbated by the hurricane (the economic and fiscal crisis, the austerity campaign, the Fiscal Control Board, etc.), we have combined forces with one of the most famous Puerto Rican poets of our time from New Jersey, NYC, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Boston, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico. We will also have a drum circle performance and blessing by Queen Mother Lloyd-Nazario.

The event is free and open to the public. All proceeds will be going to two independent presses on the island still struggling after hurricane María's passing: La Impresora and Ediciones Aguadulce.

The event will take place in the Continental Room in the Newark Public Library, Newark, NJ, on September 29, 2018, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
