Kick Assonance Poetry Series

Award-winning storyteller Leslie Goshko (TruTV, NPR) hosts a curated evening of original poetic works that’s sure to Kick Assonance! Join co-creators Kyle Erickson ("Enduro’s Lament") and Steven Leyva ("Low Parish") as they welcome fellow author Zakia Henderson-Brown ("What Kind of Omen Am I") for an evening of original poetry and prose that Time Out New York magazine named a “Critics’ Pick.”

Kyle Erickson was born in Grove, Oklahoma, and lives in Astoria, NY. His poems have been published in This Land Press, Poetry Crush, Promethia, Aromatica Poetica, and translated by Ernesto Espinoza for Cìrculo de Poesìa. Find more of his writings at www.okieinthecity.com.

Steven Leyva was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and raised in Houston, Texas. His poems have appeared or are forthcoming in 2 Bridges Review, Fledgling Rag, The Light Ekphrastic, jubilat, Vinyl, and Prairie Schooner. He is a Cave Canem fellow and author of the chapbook Low Parish. Steven holds a MFA from the University of Baltimore, where he is an assistant professor in the Klein Family School of Communications Design.

Zakia Henderson-Brown is the author of What Kind of Omen Am I, winner of the 2017 Poetry Society of America Chapbook Fellowship. She is a Cave Canem graduate fellow and a 2016 Poets House Emerging Poets fellow. Her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Adroit, African American Review, Beloit Poetry Journal, North American Review, Obsidian, Vinyl, and Washington Square Review, among others. She lives in her native Brooklyn.
