“JUKEBOX POETRY,” A Poetry Games Writing Workshop with LKN

A 2-hour poetry game exploring the link between music and poetry through melody recognition and lyrical analysis.

Jukebox Poetry is an interactive workshop, exploring the intersection of music and poetry. It will be focusing on how rhythmic structures and melodic recognition can enhance lyrical analysis and creative writing that connects both art forms.

What to Bring: A notebook (physical or digital), an open ear, and your favorite song lyric for reference.

AGENDA:

07:10 PM - 07:25 PM
Opening: The Harmonious Hook
We begin with a brief orientation and a "Melody Recognition" warm-up. This segment is designed to tune your ears to the natural cadence of language before we dive into technical analysis.

07:25 PM - 07:55 PM
Segment I: Rhythm & Scansion
This is the "engine room" of the workshop. We will analyze the percussive nature of different poetic meters (such as iambic or trochaic) and compare them to musical time signatures. You will learn to identify the "beat" behind the written word.

07:55 PM - 08:25 PM
Segment II: Lyrical Deconstruction
In this interactive block, we take well-known song lyrics and strip away the instrumentation. By treating lyrics as "naked" poetry, we will examine how line breaks and internal rhymes create a sense of melody even in silence.
