Intro to Poetry Reading and Writing is for artists who are non-poets and for non-professional poets. More specifically, this course was created to address and deconstruct the rumors that poetry sucks and is hard, and to speak to decolonized ways of knowing and tapping into emotions. In-class writing projects and opportunities for group feedback throughout the course allows participants to hone their artistry, craft, and analytic thinking skills. The core reading list will engage exclusively with BIPOC poets, including Douglas Kearney, Layli Long Soldier, Ada Limón and more.
