How To Stop Holding Your Tongue: Writing Bilingual Poetry with Larissa Frei

This event is in coordination with The Fundraiser for Rotten Kidneys to benefit fellow poet, YaNi Davis.

About This Event:

This workshop dives into the art of bilingual poetry, exploring how multilingual expression can enrich poetic creativity and voice. Through examples and practical exercises, participants will analyze examples of two writing techniques, translating and embedding, exploring the nuances of translating imaginative language through different tongues, as well as the added power of combining them in a single text for enhanced poetic expression.

About the Facilitator:

Larissa Freitas (She/Her) is a Latina poet from Brazil who believes in the transformative and healing powers of literature. Her Portuguese poems and short stories appear in six anthologies and online magazines. Her English poems have been published in works by the Los Angeles Poets Society, the Alebrijes Review, the Fahmidan Journal, the Latinx Lit Audio Magazine, Off-Topic Publishing and La Raiz Magazine. ‘Viva, by Definition’, her first chapbook, was published with Bottlecap Press.

About the Fundraiser:

This 3-day poetry/creative writing marathon benefits YaNi Davis @yanimeanspeace , a fellow poet who has been battling kidney disease and whose life is at risk due to kidney failure.

Several poets are coming together to host poetry workshops on topics they feel passionately about. All the workshop registrations are donation-based. ALL DONATIONS WILL GO DIRECTLY TO YANI'S LIVING AND MEDICAL EXPENSES.
