In celebration of National Poetry Month, the San Fernando Valley branch of the California Writers Club welcomes Karen Gorback as its keynote speaker on Saturday, April 4 at 1 pm with a topic titled “Ekphrastic Poetry for Everyone.”
In her workshop-style presentation, Gorback will share artwork from local artists as visual prompts about which participants will write. Attendees are encouraged to bring a fully-charged laptop or paper and pen to participate in the writing exercises. Even if you’ve never written a poem, you will enjoy this introductory lesson on ekphrastic poetry.
Her latest publication is a children’s picture book titled Mazel’s Mishpacha (Red Penguin Books, 2025). Both children and adults will enjoy this heartwarming tale of community, belonging, and unconditional love. Beautifully illustrated by watercolorist Cydney Bittner, the book recently received several 5-star reviews from Readers’ Favorite®.com.
