Join us for our first Brooklyn Poets Reading Series event of the new year at 144 Montague on Friday, February 10, featuring poets Brionne Janae, Joanna Fuhrman and Dawn Lundy Martin! Free and open to the public, the event will also be livestreamed via Zoom. Wine reception for in-person attendees will begin at 6 PM and readings will begin at 6:30. Book signing to follow.
Advance online ticketing will end at 4 PM (ET) on the day of the event. After that, in-person guests will be admitted at the door until we reach capacity; virtual tickets will no longer be available. In-person guests are encouraged to get a ticket in advance. After 4 PM, a Zoom link will be emailed to virtual ticket holders.

Brionne Janae is a poet and teaching artist living in Brooklyn. They are the author of Blessed are the Peacemakers (2021), which won the 2020 Cave Canem / Northwestern University Press Poetry Prize, and After Jubilee (2017), published by BOAAT Press. Brionne is a 2023 NEA Creative Writing Fellow, Hedgebrook Alum and proud Cave Canem Fellow. Their poetry has been published in Best American Poetry 2022, Ploughshares, American Poetry Review, the Academy of American Poets' Poem-a-Day, Sun Magazine, jubilat and Waxwing, among others places. Brionne is cohost of the podcast The Slave is Gone alongside poet Jericho Brown and Rogue Scholar Aífe Murray. Off the page they go by Breezy.
Joanna Fuhrman, an assistant teaching professor in creative writing at Rutgers University, is the author of six books of poetry, most recently To a New Era (Hanging Loose Press, 2021). Her seventh book, Data Mind, a collection of prose poems about the internet, is forthcoming from Curbstone/Northwestern University Press in 2024. Her poems have appeared in many journals, including the Believer, the Baffler, Conduit, Denver Quarterly and on the Poetry Foundation and Academy of American Poets (Poem-a-Day) websites, and in numerous anthologies, including the 2011 Pushcart Prize anthology. Her poem “Lavender” was featured on the Slowdown podcast. She also creates poetry videos that are on her own Vimeo site and in literary journals. In the fall of 2022, after publishing with them since she was a teenager, she became a coeditor at Hanging Loose Press.
Dawn Lundy Martin is an American poet and essayist. She is the author of four books of poems: Good Stock Strange Blood, winner of the 2019 Kingsley Tufts Award for Poetry; Life in a Box is a Pretty Life, which won the Lambda Literary Award for Lesbian Poetry; DISCIPLINE; and A Gathering of Matter / A Matter of Gathering. Her nonfiction can be found in n+1, the New Yorker, Ploughshares, Chicago Review and Best American Essays 2019 and 2021. Martin is the Toi Derricotte Endowed Chair in English at the University of Pittsburgh, Director of the Center for African American Poetry and Poetics, and Distinguished Writer in Residence at Bard College. She is currently at work on a new book of poems, Instructions for the Lovers, forthcoming from Nightboat Books; and a memoir, When a Person Goes Missing, forthcoming from Pantheon Books.
