Ulrich Baer

Ulrich Baer is the translator and editor of numerous volumes of Rainer Maria Rilke’s writings, both in German and English, most recently Letters to a Young Poet (Warbler Press, 2022); Rilke on Love (Warbler Press, 2020); and The Dark Interval: Rilke’s Letters on Loss, Grief, and Transformation (Modern Library Classics, 2018). 

Baer is a professor at New York University, where he teaches literature and photography and directs the Center for the Humanities. He is the recipient of fellowships from the Getty Research Institute and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. He has twice received New York University’s teaching awards, and hosts both the Think About It and The Proust Questionnaire podcasts.
