In 2026, Crisosto Apache was named an Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellow. In partnership with local Colorado presses, Crisosto Apache seeks to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the state’s laureate program through the publication of a recurring series of volumes showcasing poetry from youth under the age of eighteen, representing every county in Colorado. The initiative also hopes to strengthen the state’s literary infrastructure while providing a professional platform for young, diverse voices. Beyond fundraising, the project aims to decentralize Colorado’s literary focus away from the Front Range, or its urban corridor, tasking the poet laureate with engaging smaller, underserved communities. Each subsequent volume will introduce new perspectives, fostering a continuous and inclusive narrative of the state’s cultural landscape.
