The submission period is now open for the Walt Whitman Award, the most valuable first-book publication prize for poetry in the United States. In addition to $5,000, the winner will receive publication of his or her manuscript by Graywolf Press and an all-expenses-paid six-week residency at the Civitella Ranieri Center in Italy. This year’s Academy of American Poets Fellowship winner, Tracy K. Smith, will judge the award. Submissions will be accepted through November 1.
