Today marks the opening of American Stanzas: 2006–2016, an exhibit featuring photography and mixed media works by poet, photographer, and visual artist Rachel Eliza Griffiths. In this solo exhibit, which will include portraits, mixed media, and archival photographs of poets of the Cave Canem collective over the last decade, Griffiths will explore the language and imagery of black identity in American culture. Poets featured in the project will include Lucille Clifton, Amiri Baraka, Toi Derricotte, Nikky Finney, Terrance Hayes, Yusef Komunyakaa, Gregory Pardlo, Patricia Smith, Tracy K. Smith, and more. American Stanzas will be on view from October 28, 2016, to February 18, 2017, at Poets House, with an opening reception tonight, October 28, at 7 p.m.

Read more about Griffiths and her poetry on Poets.org, and check out Griffiths’s Poets on Poetry (P.O.P.) video series, which features contemporary American poets reading an original poem and a poem by another poet, after which they reflect on their choice. We’ll be premiering a new series of P.O.P. videos beginning next week.
