Wendy Barker

Wendy Barker is the author of sixteen full-length poetry collections, including Barker’s Weave: New and Selected Poems (BkMk Press, 2022); Gloss (Saint Julian Press, 2020); and One Blackbird at a Time (BkMk Press, 2015), which received the John Ciardi Prize for Poetry. Her complete poems, edited by Steven G. Kellman, were published posthumously by Louisiana State University Press in 2025. 

A recipient of a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, at the time of her death, Barker was both poet in residence and the Pearl LeWinn Endowed Chair in Creative Writing at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she had taught since 1982. She died in San Antonio on March 11, 2023.
