Samuel Beckett

Samuel Barclay Beckett, born April 13, 1906, in Dublin, was an Irish playwright, author, and critic. Although most famous for his play Waiting for Godot (Les Éditions de Minuit, 1952), Beckett was a prolific writer of English and French across all genres. Among his other well-known works are the novels Molloy (Les Éditions de Minuit, 1951) and Murphy (Routledge, 1938), and his essay Proust (1931), a study of Marcel Proust. In 1969, Beckett was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. He died on December 22, 1989, in Paris, and was interred in Montparnasse Cemetery.
