Reynold A. Nicholson
Reynold Alleyne Nicholson, born on August 18, 1868, in Yorkshire, England, was a translator and scholar of Islamic literature. He was the author of many books, including A Literary History of the Arabs (Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1907) and The Mystics of Islam (G. Bell and Sons, 1914). Regarded as the preeminent Rumi scholar of his time, he translated many of his works into English, including The Mathnawí of Jaláluʾddín Rúmí (Messrs. Luzac & Co., 1925–40). He died on August 27, 1945.
