Navtej Bharati
Navtej Bharati was born in Punjab, India, in 1938. He earned a master’s degree in Punjabi and in the 1960s immigrated to Canada, where he received his master’s degree in philsophy from the University of Victoria.
The author of poetry and prose in Punjabi and English, Bharati is perhaps best known for his second poetry collection, Leela, coauthored with Ajmer Rode. He is also the author of a book of English-language poetry, Endless Eye, published by the Canadian Poetry Association in 2002.
Bharati is a three-time recipient of the Best Poet of the State Award from the Punjab government, as well as honors from the Punjab Languages Department and the Anᾱd Foundation, among others. He lives in London, Ontario.
