Mariposa Fernández

Mariposa Fernández, also known by her given name María Teresa Fernández Rosario, was born in the Bronx, New York. She is an award-winning poet, writer, educator, and activist whose work has been anthologized most recently in Latino Poetry: Places We Call Home (Library of America, 2024). 

Mariposa has performed at numerous colleges and universities throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and abroad, and has been featured on BET, HBO Latino, and PBS. She is the recipient of the 2021 City Artist Corps Award, given by the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, as well as awards from the New York Foundation of the Arts and the 2020–21 CUNY Adjunct Incubator grant awarded by The Center for Humanities. In 2021, Mariposa was named an inaugural Letras Boricuas Fellow by the Flamboyan Foundation. Mariposa is currently a lecturer in creative writing in the English department at Lehman College, CUNY. She lives in the Bronx.
