Manuel González

Manuel González is a poet, educator, and community organizer. Born and raised in Albuquerque, he attended the New Mexico Military Institute and studied liberal arts at New Mexico State University. 

González is the author of three books: Duende de Burque: Albuquerque Poems and Musings (University of New Mexico Press, 2021); Om Boy (Swimming with Elephants Press, 2019); and ... But My Friends Call Me Burque (Swimming with Elephants Press, 2014). 

González currently teaches creative writing, journalism, and speech at Native American Community Academy in Albuquerque. He also facilitates community-based writing workshops throughout the state of New Mexico. In 2025, González was appointed the poet laureate of New Mexico through 2028. He lives in Albuquerque.
