Mahtem Shiferraw

Mahtem Shiferraw is a writer and visual artist from Ethiopia and Eritrea. She holds an MFA in creative writing from the Vermont College of Fine Arts.

Shiferraw is the author of Your Body Is War (University of Nebraska, 2019) and Fuchsia (University of Nebraska Press, 2016), which received the Sillerman First Book Prize for African Poets.

Shiferraw is the founder of Anaphora Arts, a nonprofit organization focused on advancing the work of writers and artists of color. She divides her time between Los Angeles and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
