Judith Gautier

Judith Gautier, born on August 25, 1845, in Paris, was a French poet, novelist, playwright, and translator who worked with the Chinese and Japanese languages. She was the author of several titles, including Le Dragon impérial, (Alphonse Lemerre, 1869), L’Usurpateur (A. Lacroix et Cie, 1875), and Iskender: Histoire Persane (Armand Colin et Éditeurs, 1894), as well as the translator of Le livre de jade; poésies traduites du chinois (Félix Juven, 1902). She is known for her relationships with various artists and intellectuals of the day, including the composer Richard Wagner. She died on December 26, 1917.
