John II of Castile, also known as Juan II de Castilla, born March 6, 1405, in Toro, Spain, was the King of Castile and León from 1406 to 1454. He was known as a patron of poets, most notably Juan de Mena, who belonged to his literary court. Though he is not remembered as a poet himself, certain verses have been historically attributed to him and collected in anthologies of Spanish poetry. He died on July 21, 1454, in Valladolid, Spain.
