jessica Care moore is the author of several poetry collections, including We Want Our Bodies Back (HarperCollins, 2020); The Alphabet Verses the Ghetto (Moore Black Press, 2003); The Words Don’t Fit in My Mouth (Moore Black Press, 1997). She is also the author of the children’s book Your Crown Shines (Amistad Books/HarperCollins, 2025).
moore is a Kresge Arts Fellow, a Knights Foundation grant recipient, a recipient of a “Courage” Award from the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, and an Alain Locke Award winner from the Detroit Institute of Arts.
moore is the executive producer and founder of the twenty-one year old rock concert and empowerment weekend, Black Women Rock! Her publishing house, Moore Black Press, landed an imprint deal with HarperCollins, offering more visibility to contemporary Black poets. In 2024, she was appointed poet laureate of Detroit.
