Jen Karetnick holds an MFA in poetry from the University of California, Irvine, and an MFA in fiction from the University of Miami. 

Karetnick is the author of twenty-two books, thirteen of which are poetry collections. Her most recent books of poetry include Domiciliary (Sheila-Na-Gig Editions, 2026); Organ Language (Lit Fox Books, 2026); and Inheritance with a High Error Rate (Cider Press Review, 2024), winner of the 2022 Cider Press Review Book Award and a semifinalist for the Poetry Society of Virginia’s 2025 North American Poetry Book Award. 

Karetnick’s other honors and prizes include the Anna Davidson Rosenberg Poetry Award and the Hart Crane Memorial Award. She has also received grants, fellowships, and residencies from more than two dozen organizations, including Artists in Residence in Everglades (AIRIE) Foundation, Miami Individual Artists, Soaring Gardens Artists Residency, Stove Works, and Vermont Studio Center. 

The cofounder of the literary nonprofit Supporting Women Writers in Miami (SWWIM) and the managing editor for its journal, SWWIM Every Day, Karetnick lives in Miami, Florida.
