Jean Prokott
Jean Prokott holds an MFA from Minnesota State University, Mankato, as well as an MS in education from Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota.
Prokott is the author of the poetry collection The Second Longest Day of the Year (Howling Bird Press, 2021), winner of the Howling Bird Press Poetry Prize, and the chapbook The Birthday Effect (Black Sunflowers Press, 2021). She is the recipient of two scholarships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Association of Writers and Writing Programs’ (AWP) Intro Journals Award, and the John Calvin Rezmerski Memorial Grand Prize from the League of Minnesota Poets.
Prokott serves as poet laureate of Rochester, Minnesota, where she teaches high school English. In 2024, she received an Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellowship.
