Jay Deshpande
Jay Deshpande is the author of The Umbrian Sonnets ([Pank], 2020) and Love the Stranger (YesYes Books, 2015). His poems have appeared in American Poetry Review, New England Review, AGNI, Denver Quarterly, and elsewhere.
Deshpande is the winner of the 2015 Scotti Merrill Memorial Award and is a recipient of a Wallace Stegner Fellowship in Poetry, as well as a Kundiman Fellowship and residencies at Civitella Ranieri, Saltonstall Arts Colony, and Vermont Studio Center.
Deshpande has written for Slate and The New Republic, among other publications. He currently leads the Brooklyn Poets Mentorship Program and teaches in MFA programs at Sarah Lawrence College and Columbia University. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.
