Janice N. Harrington

Janice N. Harrington is the author of the poetry collections Yard Show (BOA Editions, 2024), which was long-listed for the National Book Critics Circle Award; Primitive: The Art and Life of Horace H. Pippin (BOA Editions, 2016); The Hands of Strangers: Poems from the Nursing Home (BOA Editions, 2011); and Even the Hollow My Body Made Is Gone (BOA Editions, 2007).

Harrington is also the author of eight children’s books, including Rooting for Plants: The Unstoppable Charles S. Parker, Black Botanist and Collector (Calkins Creek, 2023); Busy-Busy Little Chick (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2013); and The Chicken-Chasing Queen of Lamar County (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2007).

A Guggenheim Fellow, Harrington teaches creative writing at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and lives in Champaign.
