James McIntyre

1828 –
1906

James McIntyre was born in Scotland in 1828. He was the author of two collections of poetry: Poems of James McIntyre (Ingersoll, 1889) and Musings on the Banks of the Canadian Thames (Ingersoll, 1884). McIntyre, who immigrated to Canada, was known as “the cheese poet” in reference to his highly celebratory and often-mocked body of work, including several poems lauding Canada’s dairy industry. He died in Ingersoll, Canada, in 1906.
