Gloria Bird
Gloria Bird, a member of the Spokane Tribe of Washington State, was born in 1951 and grew up on the Colville and Spoke Reservations. She received a BA from Lewis & Clark College in 1990 and an MA from the University of Arizona in 1992. Bird is the author of The River of History (Trask House Books, 1997) and Full Moon on the Reservation (Greenfield Review Press, 1993), which received the Diane Decorah Memorial Award for Poetry. With Joy Harjo, she coedited Reinventing the Enemy’s Language: Contemporary Native Women’s Writings of North America (W. W. Norton, 1998). A founding member of the Northwest Native American Writers Association, Bird lives in Washington State.
