Frederick Joseph

Frederick Joseph is the author of the poetry collection We Alive, Beloved (Row House Publishing, 2024) and two books of nonfiction, Patriarchy Blues: Reflections on Manhood (Harper Perennial, 2022) and The Black Friend: On Being a Better White Person (Candlewick Press, 2020). He also penned Wakanda Forever: The Courage to Dream (Marvel Press, 2022), a children’s book based on the Black Panther series, and was coauthor, with Porsche Joseph, of Better Than We Found It: Conversations to Help Save the World (Candlewick Press, 2022).

Joseph is also a philanthropist whose work in community investment has been recognized by the Forbes 30 Under 30 list. He was the recipient of the 2024 Allyship Award at Lincoln Center’s Black Girl Magic Ball, the 2023 Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Vanguard Award, and the Bob Clampett Humanitarian Award, bestowed by Comic-Con. Joseph lives in New York City.
