Esther Allen

Esther Allen is a writer and translator who is a two-time recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Translation Fellowship and a 2009-2010 Fellow at the Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers at the New York Public Library. In 2014-2015, she was a Biography Fellow at the Leon Levy Center for Biography, where she worked on a biography of José Martí. Her translation of Zama, by Antonio Di Benedetto, won the 2017 National Translation Award. She is a professor at Baruch College and in the Ph.D. programs in French and in Latin American, Iberian, and Latino Cultures at City University of New York Graduate Center, and is director of Baruch’s Sidney Harman Writer-in-Residence Program.
