essa may ranapiri is a takatāpui Māori poet of the Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Pukeko, and Clan Gunn nations and the author of ECHIDNA (Te Herenga Waka University Press, 2022), which won the Janet Frame Poetry award and the Keri Hulme award, and ransack (Victoria University Press, 2019).

They are currently a PhD candidate at Otago University and live on Ngāti Wairere land on the island of Te-Ika-a-Māui, currently occupied by New Zealand.
