E. B. White

E. B. White was an American essayist, poet, and children’s book author born on July 11, 1899, in Mount Vernon, New York.

A longtime staff writer at The New Yorker and the recipient of a Presidential Medal of Freedom and a Pulitzer Prize special citation, White authored numerous volumes of poetry, including The Fox of Peapack, and Other Poems (Harper & Brothers, 1938) and The Lady Is Cold (Harper & Brothers, 1929), as well as the classic children’s books Charlotte’s Web (Harper & Brothers, 1952) and Stuart Little (Harper & Brothers, 1945).

He died on October 1, 1985, in North Brooklin, Maine.
