Seattle Civic Poet, 2025-2026

Dujie Tahat is the author of three chapbooks: Here I Am O My God (Poetry Society of America, 2020), selected for a Poetry Society of America Chapbook Fellowship; Salat (Tupelo, 2020), winner of the Tupelo Press Sunken Garden Chapbook Award and longlisted for the 2020 PEN/Voelcker Award; and Balikbayan (New Michigan Press, 2022). 

They have earned fellowships from the National Book Critics Circle, Hugo House, Jack Straw Writing Program, and the Poetry Incubator, as well as scholarships from Bread Loaf and Sewanee Writers’ Conferences.

Tahat serves as critic-at-large for Poetry Northwest and the poetry editor for Moss. Their career began as a Seattle Poetry Slam finalist, a collegiate grand slam champion, and Seattle Youth Speaks Grand Slam champion, representing Seattle at HBO’s Brave New Voices. 

Along with Luther Hughes and Gabrielle Bates, they cohost The Poet Salon podcast. In 2025, Tahat was appointed the fifth Seattle Civic Poet through 2026.
