Billy-Ray Belcourt

Billy-Ray Belcourt is from the Driftpile Cree Nation from northwest Alberta, Canada. He is the author of six books, three of which are poetry, including The Idea of an Entire Life (Beacon Press, 2025) and This Wound is a World (Frontenac House, 2017), winner of the Griffin Poetry Prize, of which Belcourt is the youngest winner so far. 

Belcourt serves the Canada Research Chair in Queer–Indigenous cultural production and edits poetry for Hazlitt. He is also the founder of oteh nikan, an online magazine of LGBTQ2S+ Indigenous writing. Belcourt is an associate professor in the School of Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia.
