Alejandro Cáceres Joseph
Alejandro Cáceres Joseph was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, on October 27, 1946 to Alejandro Cáceres Pereira and Carmen Joseph de Cáceres. He received his PhD from Indiana University, and his ongoing research on Uruguayan poet Delmira Agustini has resulted in the publication of many articles, as well as lectures at the Library of Congress and the National Library of Uruguay. The Selected Poetry of Delmira Agustini: Poetics of Eros (Southern Illinois University Press, 2003), translated by him, is the most comprehensive collection on Delmira published in English.
Cáceres Joseph was an associate professor of Spanish in the department of foreign languages and literatures at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, a position he had held since 1994, as well as a member of the Academia Uruguaya de Letras.
Alejandro Cáceres Joseph died on November 24, 2021.
