Lauren Camp

Poet Laureate of New Mexico, 2022–2025

Lauren Camp is the author of seven books of poetry, most recently An Eye in Each Square (River River Books, 2023); Worn Smooth Between Devourings (NYQ Books, 2023); and Took House (Tupelo Press, 2020). Her work has been translated into Arabic, Mandarin, Spanish, and Turkish.

Winner of the Dorset Prize, Camp has also received fellowships from the Black Earth Institute and the Taft-Nicholson Center. She has won finalist citations for the Arab American Book Award, the Housatonic Book Award, and the New Mexico-Arizona Book Award. In 2022, she was Astronomer in Residence (ASTiR) at Grand Canyon National Park. 

Camp was a visual artist from 1996 to 2008. Her portrait series, The Fabric of Jazz, was displayed in museums in ten cities. For years, she was a producer and host of Santa Fe Public Radio. She currently teaches for Poetry Out Loud-New Mexico and leads her own community workshops. Camp is also a senior reader for Mimbres Press.

The poet laureate of New Mexico through 2025, Camp lives in New Mexico. In 2023, Camp received an Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellowship
