The Ten Commandments of the Anatomist’s Wife /
Thou shalt not let the tissue sample go toxic.
Thou shalt not let the scalpel scrape.
Honor the theater of the operation,
the breeding of deathbeds in its depths.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s eye or tibia
or the godless handle that is his heart.
Thou shalt not let injury fingerprint the herd.
Halt thy vast intelligences in the ways they reach.
Halt the origins, their burnt and wild hymns.
Remember the solemn jugs insomnia tips.
The body is a god. Worship no other.
Thou shalt not take the body’s name in vain.
