Shadows Cast

for Doug

Your shortbread bakes, and the children play in winter’s light,
While the sun slices shadows into strange, orange wedges
And rejects the night.

Your shortbread bakes, and the children play in winter’s light,
Their shadows stretching, cast slight
Against the lawn’s fresh hedges.

Your shortbread bakes, and the children play in winter’s light
While the sun slices shadows into strange, orange wedges.
