Barricade

Come to the other hole, and fit your tin,
And start your spike;
And if you hear the rat within,
Strike!

Rats can gnaw, but suddenly a nail
Can eat an inch.
Let him see our teeth, and quail,
And flinch!

Now he scampers—pound more loudly yet
To kill my fear!
The feet are what I must forget…
Hear?
