The North Dakota Council on the Arts (NDCA) is a service and program agency of the state, established in 1967 by the State Legislature to develop the arts and to promote and support the arts in North Dakota. Over 75 percent of the NDCA budget is awarded to organizations and individuals through its various grant programs. The NDCA also supports the State Tree Lighting Ceremony each December, a biennial State Arts Conference and Artist's Showcase, and the biennial Governor's Awards for the Arts. The NDCA partners with a variety of state agencies and non-profit organizations throughout the state in the presentation and support of arts-related programs, including Poetry Out Loud and several artist residency programs.
